The LTSM has been working on studies on toxicology and risk management for more than 20 years. The main research activities in the Risk Management area include varied topics, such as Development of fate and transport models, Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in environmental and human health risk assessment, Development of Expert Systems, Cost-benefit Analysis and Study of sustainability of processes. Different studies have also been done within diverse fields of Toxicology, including Neural and behavioural toxicity of pollutants in animals. The potential application of intelligent testing tools in the framework of these investigations has also been studied.

The group takes part of the IPCP Network (International Panel on Chemical Pollution) and UNEP/SETAC “Life Cycle Initiative”.
